Drapers Internship

So I have just finished my internship at Drapers. I really wanted to post and do like a sort of diary but being a hard working little intern...I was so bloody tired after interning and then the evening job.

Basically I really wanted to write this post Drapers post because I had a fabulous time! The team are incredible lovely. I know that's the main thing that marks a good internship but why shouldn't I state how lovely they were!

Basically, I was a Fashion Cupboard Intern. There was a photoshoot for shoes happening at the time and me and another intern logged their entry into cupboard and then sent them back.

At some points it did feel like this.

Ok, so fashion cupboard intern sounds really interesting and cool but... fashion cupboards are really the most uninspiring places in the fashion world. Nether the less, it was a mighty good experience. I learnt a lot and met some really interesting people. At the end of the day, fashion cupboards, samples and PR queries are a big part of getting the magazine to print and if you can't see that working in one is a massive step up your career ladder in the incredible difficult world of fashion journalism... then you're a pessimistic scrot and maybe this career isn't for you.

I also got to do a little bit of editorial work which I really enjoyed. I love writing and working for Drapers has opened up some opportunities for me but I don't want to divulge on that yet!

Space Girl by Lush

Space Girl by Lush

Shout out for how truly amazing the Space Girl bath bomb is.  I first saw it on Away with the Fairies blog and I was shopping with my Mum and popped into Lush as I wanted to try it.

Just for a bit of naming and praising, because life in retail can be tough, I went to the Truro branch and they were so lovely. Long gone are the days where I thought Lush just sold over priced, ridiculous bars of soap. Their displays and staff were absolutely lovely. I was given a demonstration by someone I actually went to school with but he was so good with everyone in the shop. They knew exactly what I wanted and gave me a demonstration on making a load of bubbles. Always a winner.

Anyway, I just thought this was truly amazing and I wanted to share.

Sleek Luminous Press Powder

Sleek Luminous Press Powder- Superdrug -£6.99
I've wanted to try this press powder out for a while but still had some loose powder to use up. I generally prefer loose powder as appose to set but the 'luminous' factor of this one somewhat attracted me to it.

I don't need heavy foundation but given how long I have to wear make-up for (full day of interning followed by a part time job but I usually wipe and reapply) I like to use a setting powder.

This gives a really glowy look and just what I was looking for. I really like Sleek at the moment. I swear by their Rose and Gold blusher which is a really good dupe for Nars Orgasm. I know everyone is aware of that and have they're own opinions but for less than £5 you can't go wrong.

Have you tried any Sleek products?

London Calling

Top- Charity Shop
Skirt- Asos
Snood- New Look
Hat- Asos

How cliched is the title? Oh well, as almost as cliched as spelling cliched wrong because I can't be bothered to add the accent in on the 'e'... unless you're a potential employer in that case... it's not working?

Anyway.. hi-ho-hi-ho, it's back to London I go. I am not joking at this next bit. I left London on Boxing Day, went 'up-North' to see my Mum and family and then came home to Cornwall where I've spent the last two weeks. This is the bit i'm not joking at. I rocked up in Cornwall with literally my handbag, my laptop and the clothes I stood in. Yet... I had enough clothes i'd left behind when I first hopped to it to London to wear and it wasn't even stuff I had to make to with. It was actually stuff I liked wearing and forgot about.  I have too many clothes. But shall I de-clut myself of some of them?... never!!! Besides I still have Asos and Jack Wills vouchers to spend.

I have an interview for another internship on Friday... (mental high five to self)... I swear i'm morphing into Miranda.

Not exactly a ground breaking outfit. I love this top. Despite it adding about 10 extra pounds in its appearance to me I've always liked it. I wore this hat to dinner with  my friends and they didn't ridicule me for it... it must be a winner.

Happy Friday People... :D

Two thousand and fourteen

Dress- Asos
Hat- Asos
Bracelets- Pandora and Disco Beads
I promised myself i'd get on with this blog in 2014 but it's been hard. I've not been in London this 2014 and not due to start interning again until late January. I'm back in London on Friday and really plan to make the most of it.

It's been hard. I'm not exactly in love with London. Everyone pushes and shoves. The people I have managed to meet and become friends with are fantastic and i'm sure the woman who stood on my foot on a bus and didn't bother to apologize is lovely too once you get to know her but general public of London...eurgh!

I love this dress. It's from Asos and I wish I'd bought a size 10. I always fail to size down a Asos but you really should!! It's a bit of dupe this dress for a Lazy Oaf baseball top with eye prints. I only mention it because I wore it to the Lazy Oaf press office to pick up a sample. #badintern

PR or Journalism?

So I recently finished my internship at a PR agency. I learnt a lot and really enjoyed my time there, it was totally worth while and the people there, one in particular gave me A LOT of advice and help and it was really cool. Now I sense you can feel a but coming. Yes... but- I have decided PR is
not for me and that's ok.

I am interning to gain experience and to learn what 'it's' like but to also try and figure out what the heck I want to do with my life! Now I know PR isn't it.

So it's journalism...defininitly and I can even go one step further and whittle it own to wanting to be a style journalist. My family will be so proud. No longer shall I avoid the question every-single-family-member-asks when they see you. The dreaded "What's next?" Question dreaded by graduate everywhere!! They should totally make it a University Challenge question!  No, I shall be able to go forth and answer, Yes, Auntie Enid, I know exactly what I wish to do with my life!"

I recommend doing PR work experience even if you are sole heartily dedicated to a career in journalism. Just to see how the other half live as it were. I kind of se it as a long table with PR on one side and Journalists on the other and they are all working together to produce something in the middle but they never see each other. Catch ma drift? No, never mind. It's worth it because you have to contact PR all the time as a journalist and its worth just to see what makes them tick, how to butter them up? I don't know... you never know you might do he opposite to me and go the other way.

How to stop being shy

Companies take on interns because they need help over a busy period or they need someone to help with administrative tasks that cannot be completed by employees due to high work load. If the company regularly takes on interns they will be used to seeing different faces and yours could just be another one.

What's the point of interning if you're not going to learn from your experiences. That's the whole point of doing it. Interning opportunities are hard to come by as it is- especially in the fields your interested.

There is no time to be shy or scared to ask. Be polite and be watchful and don't be rude but take every opportunity to ask questions and meet everyone you can and remember... everyone loves a cup of tea!!
