PR or Journalism?

So I recently finished my internship at a PR agency. I learnt a lot and really enjoyed my time there, it was totally worth while and the people there, one in particular gave me A LOT of advice and help and it was really cool. Now I sense you can feel a but coming. Yes... but- I have decided PR is
not for me and that's ok.

I am interning to gain experience and to learn what 'it's' like but to also try and figure out what the heck I want to do with my life! Now I know PR isn't it.

So it's journalism...defininitly and I can even go one step further and whittle it own to wanting to be a style journalist. My family will be so proud. No longer shall I avoid the question every-single-family-member-asks when they see you. The dreaded "What's next?" Question dreaded by graduate everywhere!! They should totally make it a University Challenge question!  No, I shall be able to go forth and answer, Yes, Auntie Enid, I know exactly what I wish to do with my life!"

I recommend doing PR work experience even if you are sole heartily dedicated to a career in journalism. Just to see how the other half live as it were. I kind of se it as a long table with PR on one side and Journalists on the other and they are all working together to produce something in the middle but they never see each other. Catch ma drift? No, never mind. It's worth it because you have to contact PR all the time as a journalist and its worth just to see what makes them tick, how to butter them up? I don't know... you never know you might do he opposite to me and go the other way.

How to stop being shy

Companies take on interns because they need help over a busy period or they need someone to help with administrative tasks that cannot be completed by employees due to high work load. If the company regularly takes on interns they will be used to seeing different faces and yours could just be another one.

What's the point of interning if you're not going to learn from your experiences. That's the whole point of doing it. Interning opportunities are hard to come by as it is- especially in the fields your interested.

There is no time to be shy or scared to ask. Be polite and be watchful and don't be rude but take every opportunity to ask questions and meet everyone you can and remember... everyone loves a cup of tea!!

Where to sit on the tube

Ive found a new favourite place to sit on a train. Pick a desired carriage and turn right and walk towards the bottom of the carriage. Sit in the far right corner seat.
Man its so cosy and there is no one behind you. . I feel totally cocooned right now! !
But the man who was cocooning me just left. .. hope his replacement does the job as well as him!!!

Victoria Station

I don't know who I hate more. People who don't move down the carriage when getting on a busy tube or the person trying to get on who shout, "Can you move down the carriage please."

It's a real conundrum. I mean person A is an absolute, oblivious Bellend who needs to wake up and acknowledge people but person B have obviously forgotten that people do not do that in London...speak to strangers and also, they see themselves as an uppity, self important busy body who sees themselves queen on the carriage.

Equally people who get of and just stand at the top of escalators should have their Oyster cards cut up infront of them.

Who said chivalry was dead?

Every Londoner for a start.

You know those triple seats of doom you get on trains. You know the ones I mean, the ones where you get on and see three seats and lots of space and then by the time you've reached Victoria, some business man/ women with the worlds largest briefcase, playing CandyCrush on their iPads are elbowing you in the face.

Or what if you're semi intelligent or just an impatient git that wants to leap off the train the minute the doors open after being pressed seventy thousand times by an idiot. You sit on the edge and then have the same business person clamber across you.

My sister once told me of what sounds like an urban legend and yet it's true. She was sat in said triple seats of terror by the window sat opposite a friend. Four business men got on and sat in the remaining seats. All immersed in their [insert Apple technology products here] they did not notice the heavily pregnant woman get on. So after clambering across the men to let the lady sit down, she then had to do the same.

How to get sexy, skinny legs

The easiest way to get sexy, skinny legs? Intern! I am not kidding in just two weeks I have notices a massive difference in my pins.

It helps that my office is up a flight of stairs but the amount of running for the bus, trains and tubes (not advised) that I do its incredible!

So want to shred the pounds and have no time? I have compiled the extensive work out routine of an intern.

The daily exercise routine of an intern

7:30am
Walk to the train station, realise your train is leaving in 2 minutes and run to platform.

7:46am
Run to to the other end of the station to get the overground because your train was delayed

8:52am
Run from the station to office because the Overground sat outside a station for 20 minutes without a reason and you're now late.

10:30am
Several trips to the recycling bins in the court yard- several flights of stairs are involved.

12:30pm
Lunch Run

5:30pm
Run to tube station

6:45pm
Start evening job which funds your ability to intern

7:30pm
Unload boxes, lift boxes, stand on tills etc

11pm
Run for bus to enable an ETA of home sometime before 12:30 am

Please note... Please wait a week to see noticeable differences.

Plus after two weeks of little sleep your immune system will be down and you'll get sick and not be able to eat... why do you think thr fashion world is so skinny?

Starting

So I've been interning a little over two weeks now and MY GOD have I been busy. Interning is so hard, especially if you have to have a part time job running along side. At the moment i'm working 63 hour weeks! It's tough but so worth it. To be able to gain experience in the field i'm interested in. I feel lucky.
